  • This is an example of placing a gene into a bacteria (E. coli) that codes for a jellyfish protein that glows under uV light. The plate on the left has arabinose in it which is the ‘turn on' for the gene. The plate on the right does not have arabinose so the gene is off and not activating the ‘glow in the dark' gene.
