Seward County Community College is a two-year institution offering 45 programs of study, including Adult Basic Education, certificate programs and Associate of Arts, Science, General Studies and Applied Sciences degrees. The Agriculture Technician will maintain greenhouse plant materials, including watering, feeding, pruning, propagation, testing, and pest management; operate environmental control equipment, fish and fish tanks, maintain greenhouse facility, including, maintenance, and repair of special equipment; and assist in general cleanup and maintenance projects.

Essential Functions may include but are not limited to:

  • Maintain plant material for research and teaching, including watering, fertilizing, pruning, and propagation.
  • Apply the principles of Integrated Pest Management in scouting for insect, disease and weed infestations; identification of insect pest species, and monitoring of pest populations.
  • Apply chemical and biological materials to manage insect, disease, and weed pests.
  • Assist faculty, staff, and students in projects, including constructing, installing, maintaining and repairing mechanical devices and/or equipment, and the application of chemicals or biological materials.
  • Maintain greenhouse facility including, maintenance, of  other equipment.
  • Determine settings and ranges for environmental control equipment and operate such equipment, including computerized programs.
  • Harvest greenhouse plants.
  • Calibrate and help maintain tractor and spraying equipment
  • Use and maintain personal protective equipment.
  • Assist in planning and production of plant stock for special events as required.
  • Maintain special plant collections as required, including vegetative and seed propagation, pruning and renovation of specimen plants.
  • Maintain fish tanks which include feeding fish, cleaning tanks and changing tank water
  • Help maintain flowerbeds and landscaping across campus
  • Maintain care of fruit trees and bushes
  • Feed and take care of Agriculture animals
  • Perform related duties as assigned.



A two-year college degree or two years of experience with greenhouse operation and agriculture operations. Has knowledge of greenhouse operation and management. Ability to operate, maintain, and perform basic repairs to greenhouse machinery and equipment. Computer skills as required by department. Ability to establish and maintain effective communications and working relationships with faculty, staff, students, and the general public as required. Sufficient strength and physical dexterity to perform duties and responsibilities of this job, including lifting.
