Responsibilities

The instructor will engage in a variety of learning support and instruction/training practices. Responsibilities include preparation, conducting beautician courses as assigned. This includes but is not limited to developing lessons and facilitating student learning in a salon setting, supervise students' progress, track supplies inventory, and share knowledge of new techniques. Teaching assignments may include hair cutting, hair coloring and styling, sanitation, nail care, chemicals and salon experience. Teaching may include some evenings and travel for demonstrations and/ or competitions. Faculty is expected to demonstrate and maintain competence throughout their employment at the college.

Seward County Community College serves as an important link to higher education in the remote corner of Southwest Kansas, serving a student population of which around 70% is first int their families to attend college. More than half identified as Hispanic. We draw students from a five-state service area. The success full candidate must be acculturated to the community and demographic flavors of the rural Midwest.

Qualifications

Current Kansas Cosmetology License and Kansas Cosmetology Instructor's License and two to five years as a cosmetologist experience required. Associate degree or postsecondary vocational certificate preferred. Teaching experience, good communications and record-keeping skills a plus.

Salary Range:  Commensurate to education and experience

Position Status:  Full-time, 195 days contract

Selection Process

The search committee will conduct all minimum qualification appraisals as set forth on the position announcement and job description and reserve the right to limit the number of interviews granted.  Meeting the minimum qualifications for a position does not assure the applicant an interview.  Applicants selected for an interview will be notified of the time and place of the interview.  Interviews are usually conducted on campus by the search committee.  Additional interviews and/or teaching demonstrations may be required.
